The Girl Who Came to Visit Kirby

A security camera. A 36-year-old horse. A little girl no one recognizes. And twenty seconds nobody has fully explained.

“The camera may explain why she looked like a ghost. It doesn’t explain who she was.”

The Find

Jil, a therapist who posts on TikTok as @ljtherapy, said she was reviewing her stall cameras because she felt Kirby, whom she identifies as 36 years old, had not been lying down at night. What she found instead was something she couldn’t explain.

The camera records about 20 seconds whenever motion triggers it, and this clip is from around 11 PM. Kirby is in frame. Beside him is a small, pale, upright figure that appears to be a little girl in a dress or nightgown. Its movement looks as though it may be petting, or reaching toward, Kirby. That is how it appears; what it actually was remains the open question.

Evidence in Motion

The footage itself is the evidence here, so these are the observable moments to look for when you watch it. They describe how the clip appears, not what it proves.

  1. A small apparent figure appears beside Kirby

Early in the clip, a pale, small, upright shape appears in frame next to the horse. At this stage it looks translucent.

See it in the original footage ↑
  2. Later, it looks more stationary and more human-like

As the shape stays in place, viewers say it reads more like a small person, which is why the camera explanation alone doesn’t feel complete to many of them.

Watch for it in the original footage ↑
  3. Watch for timing, movement and context

A single frozen frame strips out how the shape moves, how Kirby behaves and how the camera renders it. The video is worth more than any isolated screenshot.

    Then watch Jil’s follow-up ↑

Twenty seconds, in order

The camera doesn’t record continuously. When motion triggers it, it saves about 20 seconds. This was reportedly the complete clip from that activation, so there is no longer version waiting somewhere.

  1. Start
    Motion

The camera wakes. A pale shape appears in frame beside Kirby.

  2. Early
    Translucent

Viewers describe the figure as see-through, with a background post seeming visible through it.

  3. Later
    Settled

As it becomes more stationary, viewers say it reads more like a small upright person.

  4. End
    Stop

The roughly 20-second recording ends. Nothing more was captured from that activation.

Timestamps are approximate, describing how the clip reads, not measured frames.

Follow-up & Context

According to her follow-up, Jil was checking her stall cameras because she was concerned Kirby had not been lying down at night. She identifies Kirby as 36 years old. The camera records about 20 seconds when motion triggers it, and this clip is from about 11 PM on a Monday.

Jil said she did not know whether it was a ghost or a real person, and was not even sure she believed in ghosts.

Everything on this page about the property, the cameras and the neighbors rests on Jil’s own account.

If she was a real child, the ordinary explanation creates its own mystery.

These details rest on Jil’s account. Speculation: nothing here establishes who, or what, she was.

The Internet Found More Ghosts

Once the clip spread, viewers went frame-hunting and pointed out additional apparent people and figures. Daylight and context revealed ordinary objects. One figure, described as a pioneer woman, turned out to be a hanging hose. Others, people suggested, were buckets and ordinary stall equipment.

“Pioneer woman”?
A crouching figure?
A face?
Pareidolia, briefly

Our brains are tuned to find faces and bodies in random shapes—clouds, outlets, shadows. In grainy night footage, that instinct works overtime. It isn’t a failure of intelligence; it’s a feature of being human. It is also why the page returns to the central figure with care.

A brief interlude

“Pink high heels?”

Bright pink fly boots.

Kirby is just a fancy boy.

Kirby’s Reaction

Kirby appears calm during the footage. Some viewers read that as a sign of a gentle, familiar visitor; others as a sign nothing was there. Neither conclusion holds up.

A calm horse doesn’t prove or disprove anything paranormal, and horse behavior varies widely. Horses react to countless things we can’t see—and ignore plenty that we can. His reaction is interesting context, not evidence.

Kirby is not a paranormal detector. He is simply Kirby.

Why She Looks Transparent

Manufacturer support pages (Swann, Reolink) describe how, in low light, security cameras often lower the frame rate or use longer exposures, which can leave moving objects smeared or ghosted. Anything moving during that window can smear, duplicate, stretch—or look translucent, because the background is being recorded through where the subject was.

The paranormal-looking effect has a perfectly ordinary technical name: ghosting.

The Detail That Keeps the Case Open

In a technical discussion beneath Sharon A. Hill’s analysis, commenter J. B. Crawford suggested that the way a background post appears through the moving figure, then disappears as the form becomes more stationary, is consistent with temporal integration or low-light ghosting. That is an interpretation of the clip, not a forensic examination of the original file, and it is Crawford’s reading, not something Hill independently demonstrated.

But here is the twist. As the figure becomes more stationary and the distortion should be fading, it doesn’t dissolve into a hose or a bucket. It appears more human-like.

The camera explanation may remove the transparency without removing the person.

  • Jil said she was reviewing the cameras because Kirby had not seemed to lie down at night.
  • The clip is from about 11 PM on a Monday, per Jil.
  • It is a ~20-second motion-triggered clip.
  • It shows a small, pale, upright figure that appears to be a little girl in a dress or nightgown.
  • The figure appears as though it may be petting or reaching toward Kirby.
  • Jil said no recording showed anyone walking into the area.
  • Jil said neighbors with children did not identify the apparent child.
  • Jil said she knows of no one having died on the property.
  • The bright pink items on Kirby’s legs were fly boots.
  • Camera behavior can plausibly explain the translucent appearance.

What we don’t know

  • Who—or what—the figure is.
  • Whether it was a real person, a child, or a ghost, as Jil herself said she did not know.
  • How it reached the location.
  • The exact camera model and settings.
  • Raw files, metadata, or forensic analysis.
  • What actually triggered the camera.
  • Whether anyone could have approached without being recorded, since this rests on Jil’s account.
  • Any historical connection to the property (Jil knows of no death there).
  • Whether anything was staged.
  • Anything supernatural.

Five Theories

A real child

What it explains

Upright posture, child-like proportions, gentle reaching motion, and a horse that seems unbothered.

What it doesn’t

According to Jil, how she arrived without appearing on other cameras, why nearby neighbors with children did not recognize her, and why a child would be out alone near 11 PM on a school night.

What visited Kirby?

Choose one. There is no wrong answer.

The pink high heels? Fly boots.
The pioneer woman? A hose.
The little girl beside Kirby? That one is still ours to think about.

Sometimes the most interesting stories aren’t the ones that prove something. They’re the ones that survive after we’ve explained everything we can.
